เรื่องสั้นหรรษา พาราเซตาม่อน (ตอนจบ) / Time for a short story (the end)

สุดท้ายแล้วฮ่ะ // The last one

Whether it was the music, the alcohol, the dancing, the touching or the mere attraction that had made both of us want to do something more, we did not care. Apparently, this was not my first one-night stand, granted it turned out that way. It was my birthday and it might be as well be a good birthday present for me, mind-blowing sex.
“You vant go to somewhere?” Chris asked the question I had wanted to hear all evening.
I kissed him and said, “Please, take me there.”

We left DJ about half an hour before it closed, that was why the flock had not formed yet. We walked to a fairly small hotel in Soi Sala Daeng. It took about five minutes or so for us to get there. In front of me, the bright neon sign glowed Sala Daeng Hotel boldly in the dark. The sleepy security guard looked at me curiously and then nodded at Chris.

Despite the size of the hotel, the room was elegantly decorated. The red velvet curtain looked seductive in the dimmed orange light that flooded the room. I sat on the sofa while Chris went to get a drink from a mini refrigerator. I noticed the adjoining bedroom just beside the fridge. Its door had been left ajar, revealing a spotless bed inside. Chris came back and offered me a glass of water. He sat down beside me, turned towards me and smiled. I was going to smile back when he leaned towards me and kissed me. As the kissing got more and more out of control I knew it was going to happen right there. “Who needs the bed anyway?” I mused. He kissed me all over my body. I began to tremble at his wild advances and then everything had gone hazy.

It was bliss. It had been a while since my last one-night stand. Chris had gone to take a shower. “Will this turn into something more than a one- night stand?” I thought to myself, lying on the bared floor. I began to wonder where Jay had disappeared to before. He had probably gone and pursued his long desired career by joining the assembly, which, by this time, must have been in full swing. I chuckled at the thought when Chris came out of the bathroom. He motioned to the empty bathroom, saying, “You can use it now.” I smiled at him and went for my shower.

A moment later, I stepped out of the shower, feeling fresh and clean. Chris was nowhere to be seen. I looked around the room and noticed that the bedroom’s door had been closed. “He must have waited for me in there.” I thought, drying myself. Normally, I would not go with a guy whose English was not his first tongue to save confusion. However, with Chris, it was different. I seemed to be less picky. I tiptoed to the bedroom, hoping to surprise him. I twisted the door knob, only to find that the door was locked.
“Chris?” I said, knocking on the door. “Can you open the door please?”
Silence.
I knocked louder this time, hoping he would hear me. “Chris, you hear me?”
The door clicked open. Chris poked his head out of the door and said, “Vat else you vant? I gave you what you vant, you can go home now!” He shut the door.
Standing behind the closed door, stunned, I sighed, “That is so German of him.”

I walked back to the couch, where my clothes laid scattered about. I started to get dressed, thinking what would be Jay’s reactions to this fiasco.

The hotel sign still shone tirelessly against the dark sky. The same security guard winked at me knowingly. I returned with a sheepish smile. I walked out of the soi to get a taxi. It was completely lifeless in front of Soi Two except for a vagrant who was fishing around in a bin for something that might be of some use to him. I, too, fished about in my jeans’ pocket for a hundred baht note. Having felt one, I took it out. To my surprise, it was a thousand baht note, a crisp, new one thousand baht note. I did not recall any thousand baht note being in my pocket at all that evening.
Suddenly, a fragment of the conversation with Man came flashing back
“Sorry guys, it’s a thousand man. He’s my frequenter, always payin’ a thousand, not less, not more. I only go with him ‘cos of his looks. He’s gorgeous!”

The vagrant looked at me curiously when I began to laugh. Man was right,
“it was easy money.”
Not only did I turn twenty-three on my birthday, I also turned hustler.

I told you, I did not believe in celebrating birthdays.
